Check-in service (beta version)

As you know, the Shikoku pilgrimage is a long journey of more than 1,200 kilometers in total length. Those who are planning to make the pilgrimage have probably gathered information and made plans in advance, but even so, unexpected things might happen when you actually start walking, or you may be confused because you do not understand the Japanese language.

We would like to establish a system to provide support in English for those who are planning to through hike the Shikoku pilgrimage and if they encounter any difficulties. When you come to Shikoku and begin your Shikoku pilgrimage, please register as a pilgrim by clicking the button for check-in below. Simply enter your name and contact information and answer a short questionnaire to complete your check-in.

If you check in, we will do our best to help you with your lodging reservations and provide you with information within the Shikoku pilgrimage area. If you need help, please contact us via email and we will do our best to help you.

There is no charge at all. However, after your Shikoku pilgrimage is over, please fill out a simple questionnaire.

We, the Pilgrimage Information Center, have been commissioned by the government to improve the reception environment for foreign travelers so that they can safely and comfortably make their way around the Shikoku pilgrimage. We are currently testing this support service. Your cooperation will help us improve the quality of our activities, also benefit other pilgrims, and pass on the Shikoku pilgrimage to future generations. We really look forward to your cooperation.

Providing information on temples via QR code

We also offer a service that provides information about each of the 88 temples on the Shikoku pilgrimage route in multiple languages.

As shown in the picture below, QR codes are posted at each temple, so you can scan them with your cell-phone and read the contents, such as the history of the temple and a map of the temple precincts.

The posting locations vary from temple to temple and may be at the entrance or the counter of the temple office, or on the bulletin board, or even at the temple gate or main hall. All of these are free of charge.
