The budget varies significantly depending on the number of days, grade of accommodation and meals, whether you wear a pilgrim outfit, or use a taxi, and so on. Here we will introduce the approximate price of the necessary expenses for the pilgrimage.

ATM Locations

As of 2024, cash is still widely used in Japan. Most hotels, supermarkets, convenience stores, and chain stores accept credit cards for both large and small amounts, but you should expect to find most private minshuku, ryokan and small restaurants accept only cash. Since the Shikoku Pilgrimage involves walking through the countryside and mountains, you may not find an ATM easily. Please check the ATM locations on a map in advance and stop by when necessary. Below are ATM locations where you can withdraw money in Japan with a credit card or cash card issued overseas.

  • One-time withdrawal limit for cards issued overseas: ¥100,000 (¥30,000 for cards with a magnetic stripe)

  • Only about half of all ATMs accept foreign-issued cards. Please check the ATM search below.
